Do you always find yourself browsing graphics sites, and don't know what the heck we're saying? Here's some vocabulary/phrases for you to better comprehend what's being said.

Vocabulary

Affiliates (Affies) n. Affiliates are people who make an alliance with each other, usually represented through linking. Most people also take affiliation to be a circumstance of contacting one another on a regular basis. 'Affie' is the informal term. CSS n. Stands for "Cascading Style Sheets." It is a computer language that corresponds with HTML and other computer languages to, basically, make them look 'pretty.' Also see, "CSS stylesheet."

CSS Stylesheet n. A CSS stylesheet is a .css document that contains all CSS codes wanted. With a stylesheet, one can control the look of all pages under that stylesheet from one file. Click here to learn more.

Domain n. A domain is a name for your internet files, so people don't have to memorize numbers and such. A domain usually refers to something like "myname.com," "mywebsite.net," etc. This website is a domain.

HTML n. Stands for "HyperText Markup Language." It is a computer language that tells websites what look like/do (at a rather basic level). However, it is not the only computer language and corresponds with several others to make nice web pages.

Host n. A website host is the website you upload/make your webpages under. Popular web hosts are Webs, GoDaddy, and my host, AwardSpace.

Javascript n. Javascript is a cool internet function that allows 'interaction' on a single web page. Ex. changing links and time counters.

Link n. A connection to another web page. There are approx. 25 links on this webpage.

PHP n. Stands for "HyperText Preprocessor." It is yet another computer language that allows websites to interact with their visitors.

Sub-Domain n. A sub-domain is a file/account under a domain for storing internet files. If you have any type of online account that has a URL, ex. "mysite.webs.com," it is a sub-doamin. However, a sub-domain is usually referred to as an account under a single person's website.

URL n. A URL is the website address (like HeartlessAdrenaline.com), but gets more specific to the web page. This web page's URL is http://www.heartlessadrenaline.com/misc/nerdjargon.php.

Phrases

Copy & Paste This means what it says. To copy, highlight what you'd like and hit CTRL+C. To paste, go to where you'd like what's been copied and hit CTRL+V (or P). What you just highlight & copied should appear where you pasted it.

Get hosted! It basically means, "Sign up to use my website as your host (store your files under my domain)." This person would like to be your host.

Get listed! Getting listed is submitting your website to a website directory, or a 'listing.' Your link will appear there, usually in exchange for putting up the directory's link. You can see where I'm listed here.

Link me Back This is a command to put a link to a helpful website onto your web page. You can link me back by clicking here.
