Writing About Yourself

Writing about yourself isn't always the easiest thing to do. Hopefully, this article can help you get some inspiration for what you write.
Writing Styles
First, you might want to select a style to present your writing. There are lots of different ways to type out your information.
- The List
Some profilers like to make lists of facts about themselves; these facts can be from logical (name, then age, then location, etc.) to completely random (when I was little, every year, etc.). Each fact is usually separated by a break (<br>). - The Paragraphs
Other profiles like to use paragraphs to combine these facts. Usually, paragraphs should revolve around a particular subject or theme before moving onto the next idea. Ex. factual info., appearance, etc. Each paragraph is separated with <p>. - Simple Words
Some people would rather use single words or small phrases to describe themselves, rather than full sentences. You could list things to like and do, and even things you don't like. Ex. "Computers. Make-up. Friends. Dislikes rainy days."
Writing
- Make a List
Make a list of the things you'd like to include in your description. Some common topics include:- Basics (Name, age, location, sex, occupation, etc.)
- Personality
- Likes
- Dislikes
- Contacts
- Write it Out
If you'd like to have full sentences in your profile, then write the ideas made in the previous step in sentence form. - Organise
Organise the sentences however you'd like. Combine certain ideas to form paragraphs, have each sentence flow into the next, or simply randomise what you have to say. - Reread & Post
Reread what you've written to make sure that everything sounds correct according to you, and then get your word out there and post!
Additional Ideas
- Try a Thesaurus
A thesuaurus (Thesaurus.com) is a helpful and easy way to find synonyms. This will help your diction and decrease repetitiveness. - Include Images/Quotes
Some people like to throw in images and quotes/song lyrics to help describe themselves. Make sure that you credit any image owners and include the person/song the quote/lyrics came from. - Keep it Original
The best way to get your persona out there is to discuss what your life is about. Avoid saying things that have been commonly used (ex. I'm the most unique person you'll ever meet), unless it's just in your personality to use some cliches.
I hope that this article helped make writing about yourself a bit easier.
