Layout #13 - Tainted Nostalgia
Name : Tainted Nostalgia
Colours : #669999 (Turquoise)
Dates : 29th March 2011 - 12th June 2011
Description : A grey and turquoise layout with vintage backgrounds and circles décor.
Comments : My love for the vintage look took me to making the lovely background with shades of grey and gradients. After experimenting
on Photoshop for a while, I finally got a decent image that would fit into my previously-made template that featured a beautiful colour: turquoise.
Though the main image wasn't my best work, I really liked the design and overall appearance of the layout and it's one of my favourites! Though
it stayed up a long time, it didn't get much positive feedback and I eventually took it down for a fresh look.
Layout #12 - Arabian Nights
Name : Arabian Nights
Colours : #7A5C7A (Violet), #4D6392 (Blue)
Dates : 19th March 2011 - 28th March 2011
Description : A violet and blue layout that has grey tones and features various textures.
Comments : I wanted to really experiment with colour rather than having a neutral layout with some accent hues, so I experimented with
what I thought were very nice shades of violet and blue that combined well together and made a nice layout. I also got to experiment with some
soft light with the white, and I thought that this layout was designed & executed very well. It just took me a while to put together! The only
reason it didn't stay up for longer is because I made a new layout and was more enthusiastic about that one.
Layout #11 - Cold Spring
Name : Cold Spring
Colours : #99FF66 (Green)
Dates : 10th January 2011 - 18th March 2011
Description : A light grey layout with light green touches.
Comments : I wanted to do a light, green layout with a very open feel to it. So, I ended up with this nice, bright green layout featuring
butterflies. I loved this layout; it stayed up for two months, and I thought it captured the feeling of spring with the coldness we'd had in
the weather that came with its duration. The graphics were okay, but I liked the layout composition & CSS a lot more. However, it was pretty
light; some of the detail couldn't be seen with some computers. It was pretty stark, as well, but overall, I really enjoyed this layout.
Layout #10 - Unfamiliar
Name : Unfamiliar
Colours : #CC66CC (Purple)
Dates : 20th November 2010 - 9th January 2011
Description : A dark grey layout with purple accents.
Comments : I really wanted to have a purple layout with the "glass text" effect I'd learned to do. So, I spent a few hours on Photoshop,
experimenting with different graphics until I decided to use lyrics from Unfamiliar by The Birthday Massacre. I kept the image simple
and worked the CSS around it.
I really liked this layout, especially the CSS and the colouring. It was simple, but it got a bit tiring over time. However, I did like it.
Layout #9 - Pink Stipes
Colours : #FF6699 (Pink), #666666 (Grey)
Dates : 29th September 2010 - 19th November 2010
Description : A pink & grey layout with a striped background and transparent features.
Comments : This idea came to me from a website I saw. When I started to create the layout I originally sketched, I started to hate it and switched to this one; I kept the striped background I had planned to have and worked off of it. I decided to have some transparent backgrounds to keep it from looking so boring, and thought that the "thanks for visiting!" sign at the bottom would be pretty cute. I rearranged the layout and I think that it turned out looking plain, and a little boring, but great. I didn't love it nor hate it by the time I took it down.
Layout #8 - Airie
Name : Airie
Colours : #CCFFFF (Blue), #CCCCFF (Purple)
Dates : 20th August 2010 - 28th September 2010
Description : A light blue and purple layout featuring a rather modern splash-graphic over a vintage background.
Comments : This layout was inspired by several things, and I absolutely loved the way that it turned out. I just loved it! I liked
the colours, the graphics, and the overall composition of the layout, and I must say that I was pretty proud. However, the colours that I
used were extremely light on other brightness & contrast settings, so I decided to let this one go. I really thought that it was a pretty
and well-composed layout, though.
Layout #7 - Orange et Bleu
Name : Orange et Bleu
Colours : #FF9900 (Orange), #00CCFF (Blue)
Dates : 1st July 2010 - 19th August 2010
Description : A vintage vs. modern left-aligned layout featuring the complementary colours orange and blue.
Comments : The image you see to the left was not the original image. However, about a week or two after putting up this layout, I
actually decided that the banner was really ugly; it had bad effects and was too big, which you can see here.
So, I remade the layout using the concept of the first idea and basically revamped it to the image you see on the left. I thought that this
layout had a common but good colour pallette and was well designed. The only real issue I had was the bar separating the banner from the
content, but I did try several things with that element and the embossing was actually the most pleasing, so I went for it. Overall, I
thought that this layout was very cute and enjoyed it.
Layout #6 - Salsa Creation
Name : Salsa Creation
Colours : #FF3333 (Red), #CCFF33 (Green), #FFFF99 (Tan)
Dates : 24th May 2010 - 30th June 2010
Description : A tan layout with bright red and green accent colours.
Comments : I don't know where I got the colour inspiration, but I really liked it and decided to turn it into a layout, as well as
do something different for the site. So, I created a horizonal background and did not use any white to create a warm atmosphere that flowed
through the entire screen. I wanted to keep it simple with interest, so the images were calm and I did more colouring with the CSS. This
layout did feel a little unfinished, but I really liked the atmosphere and how it all pulled together.
Layout #5 - Neopolitan Delight
Name : Neopolitan Delight
Colours : #FF6699 (Pink), #993300 (Brown)
Dates : 19th April 2010 - 23th May 2010
Description : A pink, brown, & white layout with hearts.
Comments : This layout came after a revamp, when I redid the site to me more PHP- and CSS-oriented. I liked the colour scheme and
the overall design of the layout as far as bringing texture into the background and large borders to anchor the page. I do wish that I had
added some more interest in the banner and had added more texture to fit the warmth that the background and border brought. I do think that
this was a nice layout with some strong features.
Layout #4 - Spring is Coming
Name : Spring is Coming
Colours : #FF0000 (Yellow), #99FF00 (Green)
Dates : 7th March 2010 - 18th April 2010
Description : A yellow and yellowish-green colour scheme with butterflies.
Comments : I wanted to work with the colour scheme of yellow and green, so I created a layout that had a simple, pretty butterfly
banner with a striped background to add interest down the page. The only downside that I had for it was that a large majority of it was
white and possibly a little too simple, so it did get boring. I thought that it had some good ideas though.
Layout #3 - Beige Romance
Name : Beige Romance
Colours : #FF9966 (Tan), #990000 (Red)
Dates : 3rd February 2010 - 6th March 2010
Description : A beige and red layout with hearts.
Comments : I wanted this layout to be warm and more interest, so I created a textured, striped background with a pretty banner to
add interest, warmth, and maybe even a little bit of romance. However, one of my worst designing decisions of the time was always using
white as a background colour, which I did in this layout. I wish that I had used some more colour throughout the page to really bring the
essence of the background and the banner together. Overall, though, I thought that it had a warm and, yes, romantic prescence that I enjoyed.
Layout #2 - Neon Dolls
Name : Neon Dolls
Colours : #00FF00 (Green), #9922FF (Purple), #00CCFF (Blue)
Dates : 20th January 2010 - 2nd February 2010
Description : A neon, cool-colour sceme with glitters and dolls, presented in a rather retro manner.
Comments : This layout was inspired by the several doll sites that I had been browsing around. The colour scheme was something
that was modern and exciting. However, this was definitely not one of my best works; I got sick of the effects rather easily, and the layout
was cold. I don't think that going with a doll layout was really the greatest idea for a basic resource site.
Layout #1 - Pink
Name : Pink
Colours : #FF99CC (Pink)
Dates : 16th January 2010 - 19th January 2010
Description : The colour pink repeated throughout the layout, a rather vintage background and sparkles on the main image.
Comments : I created this layout in October 2009 in preparation for the opening of Heartless. The layout was originally black and red,
but I decided to go with an airier theme, so I added lots of pink and sparkles. I didn't like the execution because it was a bit choppy
and didn't have much going on, but I do like the now unique idea of using a single colour with different shades for a layout, with the
addition of having the page 'pop' from the background. It was not my best layout, thus the 3-day duration.
