Button Effect

HomeTutorials → Button Effect

A button effect is cute for any picture, for a signature or icon, etc. It's an easy thing to do, and this tutorial will show you how to make a circular button in Photoshop.

Step 1

Open up the image you'll be using in PhotoShop, and do any edits to it. I'm using the image below.

Make the image the size that you'd like it. Go to "edit » image size" and make sure that "Constrain Properties" is ticked to keep the image from stretching.

Step 2

Click on the Ellipsis tool on the sidebar. It appears as a circle.

Pressing down the "shift" key (so that it stays circular), outline the part of the image that you'd like to be made into a button.

Right click on that section and click on "Layer Via Cut." A new layer should pop up in the layer box.

Step 3

Now, right-click on the 'Background' layer (the one that doesn't contain the part of the image you want button-ified) and click "delete layer." Click OK. Right-click on the layer left (that does have the button part on it) and click on "Blending Options." Tick off "Bevel and Emboss." Adjust the settings as you'd like them; mine are done as shown below.

Click OK. Now, you are done! Enjoy your new button! :)
