Heartless Adrenaline

Etched Glass Effect

HomeTutorials → Etched Glass Effect

Etched glass is really pretty - adding it to your graphics is simply lovely. Here's how.

Step 1

Open the file you'd like to 'etch' in Photoshop. I'll be using this image of a lovely flower.

Select a good brush tool, select #FFFFFF (white) as your colour, and set opacity to a low number (I used 20%). Make sure your setting is on 'normal.' Colour over the entire image to get a pale look, like below:

Step 2

Open a new file with a white background. Make sure that it is large enough to fit whatever you want to be 'etched' on your image.
Now, put whatever text/texture you'd like 'etched' on your image in black on this blank file. I'll do 'Summer Days, HeartlessAdrenaline.com' with a heart next to it.

Step 3

Select the entire image with your rectangular marquee tool and click 'edit » define brush preset.'

(down more in actual PhotoShop)

Name your brush preset. Click 'ok.'

Step 4

Now go to your first image (the flower) and select the eraser tool. Make sure that the settings are set as below, especially the 'erase to history.'

Select the brush that you just made, and click on the part of the image you'd like it on (an outline should appear). You've etched your image! *Note that it will appear better on darker areas.
